I’m Heidi Glatfelter, a non-profit marketing and communications expert with over 11 years of experience and a master’s in Communication Management. I have a passion for early American history and am the founder and president of Market Early America, a marketing, communications, and web consultancy for history museums. I have started this blog for multiple reasons:
1. To feed my interests in history and marketing, while exploring ways to combine the two.
2. To assist the extremely busy executives running our American historic sites with their marketing efforts. They don’t have time to keep up with all of the trends out there, so I will blog about them here.
3. To provide low-cost marketing ideas and evaluate how they work in practice.
4. To explore how technology can be used to benefit history organizations by appealing to 21st century audiences.
5. To engage in interesting dialogue with others in the field, share ideas, and have some fun!

Hi Heidi-
I also just found your site and love it! I am with a company called Audissey Guides. We produce iPod audio tours for cities, historic sites, etc…
Our mission is to help destinations preserve their history and culture and engage a new generation of travelers. Our tours are great marketing tools for destinations.
I believe we share many common objectives and would love to talk with you further.

Heidi, hi.
Clearly you’re putting each one of those 10 years’ experience into practice on this site – it’s a fantastic read and very useful.
I’m writing from the UK on behalf of a company called StrollOn.com. We do a similar thing to Audissey above, but in the UK and Western Europe. Now I know that this region is not your speciality but we have contacts within the UK and Europe that are heavily involved in the preservation of historic monuments, buildings and artefacts that may be of interest.
As far as I’m aware all of us (You, Audissey and us) share common objectives so it would be interesting to get together (via Skype, perhaps?) to discuss the options going forward and to establish a trans-atlantic relationship to benefit all involved.
Let me know what you (and Juliet) think.
All the best,
George

Hi Heidi,
I just responded on Facebook – looking forward to reading this and telling others about it. I just forwarded it to someone!
Well done and very informative. Love the way you try to make interactive history as interactive reporting/learning, in a very approachable way. Best wishes on your projects – maybe you’d need an assistant soon – me
best,
Lauren
Hi Heidi,
Great idea! We are historic artists focusing on 18th century American History – French and Indian War, Revolutionary War,Woodland Indians and Colonial America. We take commission work for museums, wholesale cards and prints to museum stores and offer secondary rights for printed material and large canvas giclee murals.
We hope our art will contribute to the preservation of historic sites by giving people the visuals they need to connect to our American history.
Look forward to future discussions.
Best,
Pamela
Hi Heidi,
A much-needed resource for those of us struggling to market our sites and keep history vibrant for, and relevant to, new audiences. Lots of good food for thought. Many thanks!

Hello, Heidi,
I was your mother’s math teacher at WHS and just saw her on the 18th when she came to my “Hello” Party. She looks great. She gave your website to me. I will pass it on to two friends of mine who are guides at the Gettysburg Battle field and I will read it as time allows. As you will leran, I am into math education . . .
I’m feeling dumb…where is your RSS feed?
It’s not you – I didn’t have one! But I just added it. Thanks for following me!
